OSLO INNOVATION WEEK- WE ARE ALL CO-CREATORS OF THE FUTURE

“We have built in the past, but we must also look forward.”

I am grateful to be invited to Oslo Innovation Week, and 657's Creative Hangout on Wednesday 28 September with the theme of SUSTAINABLE DESIGN & FASHION. Oslo Innovation Week is an annual event that invites both Norwegian and international innovators researchers, investors and startups with the intention of creating new constellations for innovation and entrepreneurship.

CHANGE IS CREATED FROM THE BOTTOM UP

My contribution in this context is a stand where I will mainly focus on Wild Knit, as a form of soft activism. It is really starting to sink in now, that we have overused the resources that were ment for our descendants. Energy crisis, economic crisis, food crisis, water crisis, the problems are waiting in line, we MUST start rethinking the way we organize our lives. Through our choices we shape our identity. Wild knitting is Literally speaking a hands on and tangible way to experience how something is made, and what it holds of real value. When you have spent many hours designing and knitting a piece, you will value it higher than if you bought it on sale. If you use yarn from small producers, spun from fiber of local animals, you have a very sustainable garment. At the same time, you support local production and people who work hard out of more or less pure idealism, and not least you support the farmer, who is woefully underpaid for the world's highest quality wool (at least this counts for the Norwegian farmers). Norwegian sheep mostly live good lives, outdoors throughout the year. It gives beautiful, warm yarns with good resilience and lovely texture. We ca no longer wait for politicians and governing authorities to find sustainable solutions for us, we are all co-creators of the future. Finding joy in the change that is necessary is the best way forward.

CHANGE IS CREATED FROM WITHIN AND OUT

Wild Knitting is a pleasurable exercise. The natural materials have a calming, almost therapeutic effect. And since you knit without following a pattern, the process involves a creative dialogue with yourself and the materials, which means that you knit with an awareness and presence that provides anchoring in the moment.

Creating change is not only about offering good and sustainable products, but also about recreating ourselves - as consumers, as manufacturers, as designers and providers of products.
We are all co-creators of the future.
