Water, Earth, Air and Fire are fundamental elements of nature, of which everything arise and ends. 1000 years ago it was a matter of course. A time where they believed that both the past and the future were equally important as the present. That all actions where poured into the well of wyrd, and emerged as knowledge. We can observe it in the art they left behind, the ornaments, the carvings. And in their poetry. Wise words of moderation, love, friendship and courage, whose validity has not been weathered over time.
They have left us an enormous gift.
In the artwork of Ragnhild Wik we see traces of it. Simple, quiet, perishable beauty. The one that occurs when loving hands strokes good materials.
The book balances modern art ceramics against old norse Eddakvad, ancient wisdom towards the aesthetics of our time in an effort to tell you what you may already know.
Visual Wisdom is printed on recycled high quality paper with environmentally friendly colors. It is sewn with black thread and has an open spine. The Runes on the book cover symbols how "everything is related to everything". The book is bilingual, in Norwegian and English.
