WINTER SOLSTICE AND PRAYER FOR NATURE

Winter Solstice - the darkest time of the year, when both light and time has slowed down its pace and now stands still in its own dark vibration.
In the dark I walk in the forrest. To stay close to the true sacredness of time.To feel the wisdom of the trees, to breath the air of our ancestors and open my heart to the magic of this beautiful world we live in.

You have probably seen the Tibetan prayer flags, often colorful and printed with symbols and mantras. The flags are used to bless its surroundings, sending good intentions into the world with the winds. According to tradition, the flags will contribute to 'awakening', or a higher degree of awareness, blessing and protection of all living things. I think it's a beautiful tradition. As I am not a Buddhist, I have made my own flags inspired by this tradition. In the woods around our cabin, small knitted flags of pure wool and hope.
I trust that the wind will carry the energy of my love for the forrest and bring it out to all its inhabitants.

If you would like to do something similar, please remember to use only natural materials, preferably locally sourced. They must not contain polyester or chemicals that can harm nature and you must make sure you do not place the flags on places or ways that can harm animals or the nature in some way.

If you have no idea of what kind of blessings you could knit into your nature flags, you can borrow some of my favourites. They are ancient blessings of old norse wise women (which I have written about in my other book, Visual Wisdom).

Text and idea from the Wild Knit book

To honor the dark season I have made a set of special editions of the Wild Knit book with hand knittet prayer flags on the cover.
